Ingredients

Food you'll need
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 can of chickpeas
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (You can leave this out if there are allergies to sesame seeds in your class or family)
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • salt to taste
Stuff you'll need
  • measuring spoons
  • blender
  • child-safe knife

Instructions

How to make it
  1. Peel the garlic by squashing the clove with the heel of your hand to release the skin
  2. Add it in the chickpeas, tahini and ground cumin to the blender.
  3. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice into the blender as well.
  4. Add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil to start.
  5. Turn on the blender and let it work its magic! Add the rest of the oil slowly.
  6. Blend everything until it's smooth. You may have to stop the blender, scrape the mixture down off the sides and blend again. Taste it to see if it needs more cumin, lemon juice or salt.
  7. Serve with carrot, pepper and cucumber sticks or try a hummus and cheese sandwich!
  8. This hummus will keep in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
