Christmas Chocolate Bark - easy food gift idea

Your kids will love making this easy, 3 ingredient chocolate bark recipe at Christmas.

It makes a great gift for teachers, lollipop ladies, neighbours, cousins or a last minute treat to bring if you’re going visiting.

This easy Christmas recipe is so versatile as you can add whatever toppings you like. We used toasted almonds because they are delicious and full of protein. And we also used toasted coconut as it smells divine (and tastes quite good too!).

Toasting both the almonds and the coconut bring out the smell and flavour of both these ingredients.

Other chocolate bark toppings you could use:

  • toasted pumpkin seeds

  • dried cranberries or raisins

  • Chocolate sprinkles

  • pretzels broken up

  • nuts like crushed hazelnuts, pecans, peanuts

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup flaked almonds
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1 cup (200g) dark chocolate (70% cocoa)

Instructions

  1. Turn your oven on to 180 degrees
  2. Put some baking paper onto one tray and scatter the flaked almonds onto it. Make sure they are well spread out
  3. Pop the tray into the oven for about 3 minutes.
  4. Take the tray out and add the coconut. Make sure everything is well spread out. Toast in the oven for another 3-4 minutes. Be careful though, as it can burn very easily.
  5. While you're waiting for the nuts and coconut to toast, break up the chocolate and melt it, using the microwave or 'bain-marie' method.
  6. Lay some baking paper onto the second tray.
  7. Pour the melted chocolate onto the second tray. Tilt the tray this way and that to spread out the chocolate into a nice thin layer.
  8. Take the nuts and coconut out of the oven - they should be a nice tan colour and smell delicious - and let them cool slightly.
  9. Before the chocolate is set, grab handfuls of the nut and coconut mix and scatter it all over the chocolate. Make sure that every piece of coconut and almond comes into contact with the chocolate or it will just fall off.
  10. Pop into the fridge for 30minutes to set
  11. When it's hard, take it off the tray and just snap it into pieces. Enjoy!
